Facebook "Fan Boost" Scams

Facebook-MarketingFacebook Scammer Alert

The whole purpose and reason Facebook became successful was because they were exclusive, it was to be a clean and prestige online community. Unfortunately, what made Facebook so great has now been plagued with so many fake accounts and scammers alike. If you are not already aware, you can Google “facebook fan boost” and find hundreds of companies willing to sell you fans for next to nothing prices. On paper this might look exceptionally appealing, but be careful of those you choose to do business with.

Signs of a Scam

Always, always, look for a phone number. If they have one, call them and see if you actually can get a response from a real person. Many companies will have a number, but will just give you the run-around with their automated phone system. If you can’t talk to a person, take a pass.

If there isn’t a phone number, send an email, if you can see more than one published email address, send the email to both accounts. Some “companies”, I must use that word loosely, just sit back and collect/steal money with no effort, so those will use only Auto-Responders to pretend real. If the email seems to be like a script, reply back with an additional question, and see if their response is any different from the first. If you never get a response, or if the emails are the same, take a pass.

If you feel like you have found a decent company to work with, then search their company name on Google, be sure to include the word ‘Scam’ or ‘Fake’ within the search to see if you find any honest case examples. If you find an angry post about someone who only got 900 fans from a 1,000 order, that shouldn’t be criticized too harshly – fans can always ‘unlike’ a page, so the company could have truly delivered the service. The posts you want to look out for are when people say NOTHING had ever come from their order. If you see that, take a pass.

What to Expect of a Fan Boost

Remember that a Fan Boost is not Facebook Advertising; it is very different. Each company most likely has their trade secrets and methods, Webmosa for one can do Facebook Fan Boosts, though the ‘how’ is confidential as we can’t risk the exposure of some accounts/groups/pages we own. For Fan Boosts no company can guarantee the quality of a fan, they can simply send people to your page. I tell my clients that Fan Boost Fans most likely will not become paying customers for you; however, these fans do a great job establishing the momentum for a page.

Though I could write a book on this subject, the easiest way to imagine this is to consider your Facebook Page a party. Initially it might be difficult to get strangers to come to your party, because there is no one there. Once you get your friends and family to support it, it creates the illusion of a popular place, so then others will quickly follow. Facebook Fan Boost would be the friends/family in that analogy, setting your page up for greater success in Advertising efforts, as well as viral possibilities.

Like I said, this can be a really, really tricky subject. If you have questions feel free to post a comment or shoot an email. If you’re a local to Tacoma, we can chat about this over a cup of coffee!
